Earthworks Seismic Inversion
The Earthworks Seismic Inversion (ESI) plug-in for Petrel* is an ultra-fast, full-featured seismic inversion software that enables effective use of acoustic impedance data in your reservoir modeling workflow. It is a fully integrated part of Petrel and uses Petrel native data objects.

The ESI plug-in for Petrel is a joint development between Earthworks and Blueback Reservoir. The inversion technology at Earthworks has evolved over the last 10 years to provide a solid and reliable solution that has been used in several hundred projects. It delivers deterministic and stochastic inversion algorithms for pre- and post-stack seismic inversion, providing an excellent toolkit for various inversion workflows and scenarios. In addition the fast and transparent colored inversion algorithm is included. It is widely used as a first approximation when inverting data, and contains salient QC plots with all the controls necessary to manipulate the inversion.

Seismic Inversion Toolbox
The Seismic Inversion Toolbox is shipped together with the ESI plug-in and contains the following tools:
- Seismic resampling
- Horizon surface conversion
- Extract well log from seismic
- Net to gross estimation
- Extended elastic impedance
- The IP/IS attributes tool creates Poisson`s ratio, Vp/Vs ratio and Lamè parameters for improved interpretation of inversion results
- Connected volumes workflow to investigate connectivity across multiple inversion volumes
- Seismic correlation - cross plot seismic in the function window
- Support for 2D filters

A 14 days trial version is also available for download.
Key features
- Model-based deterministic inversion on pre- and post-stack seismic data
- Stochastic inversion on pre- and post-stack seismic data
- Colored inversion. Creating the operator and performing the inversion are split into two separate steps to give the user full control of the process
- 3D geostatistical parametrization of models
- Spatial data dependency controlled by 3D anisotropic variogram functions
- Fast interactive testing of seismic inversion parameters prior to launching inversion runs
- Petrel data domain objects are used to set up ESI
- ESI sessions can be stored as part of your Petrel project
- Stochastic inversions can be run as individual threads, so taking advantage of multiple CPUs
- Large inversion jobs can be run in a background process to free-up Petrel licenses
- Familiar Petrel functionality is used to visualize and inspect results
Benefits
- The ESI plug-in is fully integrated in the Petrel workflow and user interface, so allowing easy access to all data types
- Fine-scale Stochastic inversion is an excellent way to better understand geophysical uncertainty
- The ESI results (acoustic impedance data) together with the Seismic Inversion Toolbox can be used to produce more accurate and detailed structural and statigraphic interpretations
- The acoustic impedance data can also be used to improve your understanding of the porosity, lithology and fluid saturation distribution in your reservoir model
- Save time and money by speeding up the inversion workflow - ultra-fast Earthworks algorithms and seamless Petrel integration give you the edge
