Seismic Reservoir Characterization Toolbox

Extract more information from your seismic

The Blueback Toolbox suite of Petrel* plug-ins contains Petrel functionality features not available in standard Petrel. It has been developed by the Blueback Reservoir development team using the Petrel development framework called Ocean*. All functionality has been developed based on requests from Petrel users around the world and the development is coordinated with the Petrel software teams at Schlumberger.

AVO classification

The Blueback Seismic Reservoir Characterization Toolbox delivers high end geophysics tools to assist in reservoir characterization. The current content is focusing on estimating seismic net pay for thin bedded reservoirs, and classification of seismic data using AVO analysis to help identify hydrocarbons.

The functionality range from the seismic net pay workflow, as presented by Connelly (2007), AVO seismic classification, and functionality for creating connected volumes of your extracted seismic attribute bodies. The Seismic net pay workflow involves a series of steps from analyzing the AI-GI gradient, through colored inversion and the creation of seismic net pay maps.

The seismic net pay workflow

The AVO analysis is using an intercept-gradient plot of your seismic data, and can dynamically adjust an ellipse around origin to detect AVO anomalies. The tool creates seismic volumes of anomalies, coloured by AVO type and AVO ‘strength’.

The Seismic Reservoir Characterization Toolbox gives you a growing set of tools to speed up and expand your understanding of the seismic. Frequent releases provide a steady increase of tools and functionality.

FUNCTIONALITY HIGHLIGHTS

  • Seismic net pay workflow for thin reservoirs
         - Find the optimum chi angle to illuminate pay facies
         - Color invert seismic data projected at the required chi angle to give band limited impedance
         - Define a model tuning wedge and calibrate to the band-limited impedance to determine net pay
         - Generate net pay maps
  • AVO seismic classification using an intercept-gradient plot. Data are plotted in an elliptical cloud around the origin, and by "muting" out the background trend AVO anomalies can be highlighted and detected. Manipulate and change the ellipse to investigate anomalies
  • Connected volumes. Create connected volumes from multiple input seismic volumes. A particularly useful tool when having multiple realizations of a given attribute (e.g. impedance). Use the "Connected volume attributes" in Seismic Set settings to investigate connectivity cross realizations

This toolbox contains a suite of tools to perform reservoir characterization from seismic data: net pay in thin reservoirs, AVO classification and connected volumes
